1999 - Ahhhh, it was a very good year. It all started back around New Year's when we made the dramatic decision to party like it was 1999. We felt this was going to go over pretty well since it really was 1999. And right we were as FSA sure moved on to some bigger and better things. Highlights included a David Nelson Band concert at Fat Tuesday's and two festivals at Wilmer's Park.
David Nelson played with Jerry Garcia in the early 60's and DNB made a special stopover in Fairfax on their East coast tour. This was a great time and we were really proud to be putting this on! Fat Tuesdays was packed and there were some tapers there too - one guy had come all the way down from Chicago and the other guy was from the New York area. The Next Step opened and played a great set as always.
Here is the set list for David Nelson Band:

Freight Train Boogie Set II

Full Steam Ahead collaborated with Funkstarr Entertainment and Eddie Fam Productions to put on their very first festival at Wilmer's Park. We had the Jim Beam liquor company as a sponsor and run a couple hundred ads on the WHFS radio station.I'll never forget the time I was driving home from work with the radio on and all of a sudden I realized that the commercial I was listening to was for the Millennium Groove. "Yeah -that's us!", I shouted aloud to myself in the car with my clenched fist raised. This was for real and I was so amazed by it all. Wow, that was so cool!
Check out the old Millennium Groove web page. Here is the list of the bands we had scheduled to play:
SEV
Jepetto
The Ordinary Way
Team Demolition
Carbon Leaf
Mary Prankster (canceled)
Live Alien Broadcast
Modern Yesterday
BoogieHawg
Suburbaneyez
Smoke
Margret Heater
The Clones of Funk
Love Muffin Prowler
Rebel Amish Radio
The Smizokes
Ice Station Zero
Puddleduck
Strawman
Smartbomb
Dog Fashion Disco
Otherhood
Hedspace
Versitile
Good Charlotte
Groovement
That was what we planned for, but a couple of the bands scheduled to play on the camp stage didn't get to because of problems with a generator.
The Millennium Groove Festival turned out to be a big success. We had the bands playing on three stages all day and a variety of vendors. The United Skateboarding Association set up a 32 ft. wide - 5 ft. high 1/2 pipe and put on an amateur skate board competition!. SEV gave a wild performance with one of them playing in the nude (well almost, but lets not get into it). I won't even mention the inflatable "love doll" that was onstage and the girls that flashed their tits to the audience. After the bands finished Tom B. the DJ ran a rave dance party that went till the early hours.

Patriot's rocked on this special occasion - the 2nd anniversary of Grateful Dead Night. It was decided that after two years, one party was not enough. A minimum of two parties would be needed properly celebrate.
The Next Step really tore it up this time at Patriot's. As expected they played to a full house and we finally felt satisfied that the 2nd anniversary of Grateful Dead Night had been given the proper treatment.
David Gans, host of the nationally syndicated DeadHour radio program, came to Fat Tuesdays to perform for us his original songs and some covers too. The Ordinary Way opened with their first acoustic set in two years. Here is the list of what David played:
| Tear My Stillhouse Down An American Family Rubin and Cherise Sitting in Limbo --> Scarlet Begonias Norwegian Wood Mr. Tambourine Man Dixie Chicken River and Drown Terrapin --> Attics of My Life Normal I Bid You Good Night --> Things We Said Today --> Scene of the Crime In My Life I've Just Seen a Face Return of the Grievous Angel Broken Arrow Sultans of Swing Monica Lewinsky |
